Women Leading Water Spotlight Series
The water industry is driven by individuals who care deeply about the work they do.
Our Women Leading Water Spotlight Series features women from the organizations supporting this initiative by sharing their journeys, reflections on leadership, and what being a woman in water means to them today.
We’re grateful to spotlight the voices and perspectives that help strengthen and support the water community. Join us to celebrate Women Leading Water this March at The Water Tower.

Wade Trim
Can you share a bit about your journey and what led you to work in water?
When I was in college, I thought civil engineering was primarily designing bridges. I ended up studying chemical engineering but realized it was a poor fit after a few years of work experience. All of the job opportunities that seemed interesting required a civil/environmental engineering degree, so I headed back to school. I earned my Masters degree at UMass Amherst where the water resources curriculum and research piqued my interest. I enjoyed developing and using H&H models to solve problems in a way that would benefit the environment as well as the community. My advisor, Dr. Richard Palmer, introduced us to a variety of project types and industry professionals. This helped me understand the full breadth of the career opportunities in water.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Knowing that the work our team does supports projects where we live. From protecting the environment to solving problems for our neighbors, it is rewarding to know that I have even a small part in making our community a better place to live.
What advice would you give to young women just joining the water industry?
Speak up and ask for what you want out of your career. Opportunities are given to those who raise their hand. Then, say yes to opportunities even if they scare you a little bit! Growth comes from getting out of your comfort zone and every experience offers a learning opportunity.
We thank Jocelyn and our Sustaining partner, Wade Trim, for supporting Women Leading Water and sharing their perspective with our community!
