On August 13, more than 140 water professionals, exhibitors, sponsors and trainers came together at The Water Tower in Buford, Georgia for the fourth annual National Backflow Prevention Day Celebration. What started as a niche training event has grown into one of our most anticipated gatherings of the year bringing together experts, exhibitors, and utility leaders, all with the same mission: protecting clean water through backflow prevention.
Why Backflow Matters
When water flows in reverse through distribution pipes, it can pull contaminants into our drinking water supply. That’s why prevention devices, testing, and proper training are critical for stopping backflow. The Water Tower’s goal is to equip water professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to protect our communities.
Training and CE Credits
This year’s event offered a lineup of technical sessions covering retrofitting solutions, digging safety, hydrants, site-specific backflow solutions, vault specifications, and isolation vs. containment. Participants who completed the full training day earned up to five water/wastewater CE credits or six Georgia Backflow CE credits for license renewal.
Exhibitor Showcase
Beyond the speaker sessions, the exhibit hall gave attendees the chance to explore the latest tools, technologies, and information firsthand. Eleven leading companies showcased equipment, devices, and information designed to make backflow prevention more effective and efficient. This opportunity is valuable for both attendees who area able to see new tech in action, and companies to meet with professionals who will potentially be putting their tech into practice. As Catrin Stith from American Backflow Products — one of this year’s gold sponsors and an exhibitor — shared:
“I’m new to the industry but it is very exciting to be here for the first time, to experience something important and meet all the people who are keeping our water safe.”
Networking and Connecting
Of course, no TWT event would be complete without great conversations and connections. Between sessions, attendees networked over coffee and lunch in the exhibit hall, sharing experiences, ideas, and solutions from across the industry. As one longtime professional put it:
“I’m a 30-year veteran in the industry and sharing the experience of backflow is one more layer of safe drinking water. My passion is sharing that knowledge everywhere and anywhere.” – Connie Nelms, Georgia Section American Water Works Association
